Why would I want a bootloader splash screen?
One thing I never understood was the idea of a bootloader splash screen. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, there are some examples of such images at this site. While the images are unique and may have some aesthetic appeal, I have always found them to be a hinderance.
When I’m booting my system, I want to see diagnostic and status messages. Now, I realize that not everybody is me, and that some people may not be interested in such messages. Even if you don’t know what they mean, it’s probably still good to always have them displayed when your system is booting up. The automatic displaying of such messages often vastly eases the job of system administrators or other technicians who may have to come fix your system if something breaks. So I think it’s best just to show such messages, rather than masking them with a pretty image.
